Critical Studies on Security

期刊简介：Critical Studies on Security Security has long shaped social relations across a range of spaces, places and scales across the world. Security is often represented as an inherent human need, a value, a virtue or social good, as a commodity to be bought, sold and exchanged and as a modality of governing to regulate and optimize life. But security is also the banner under which forms of repression, dispossession and pacification take place, offering them a guise of legitimacy. Critical Studies on Security is an international, peer-reviewed journal dedicated to the study of ‘security’ in and through social critique. The journal aims to publish theoretically informed scholarship, which engages with the practice and politics of security from diverse situated contexts, histories and experiences. We welcome articles from fields and disciplines across the social sciences and humanities, and from any critical social theoretical position. Critical Studies on Security has two sections: full length peer-reviewed research articles (described above) and Interventions articles. Interventions is a special section of Critical Studies on Security that curates collections of short, experimental, and multi-form contributions gathered around a shared theme. Contributions might take the form of fragments, vignettes, essays, interviews, poems, literary pieces, images, dialogues, or other formats that invite critical, creative, and unconventional engagements with questions of security and insecurity. Interventions pieces are not peer-reviewed. The section is a space to explore ideas and styles of writing that are often excluded from the terrain of ‘proper’ academic work, a home for emerging thoughts that may develop into larger projects, the proceedings of conference roundtables, and other forms of collective or speculative inquiry. We particularly welcome submissions from junior scholars and from those working in or collaborating with scholars in the Global South. Previous Interventions collections have explored themes such as the politics of play, the criminalisation of dissent, the relationship between Nordic countries and NATO, and the ordinary affects of global reactionary politics. We invite proposals for future collections from scholars, artists, and activists. Proposals should outline the proposed theme, the kinds of contributions anticipated, and (if relevant) any confirmed contributors. Peer Review Policy: Critical Studies on Security publishes scholarship that has undergone rigorous peer review, including an initial screening by the editors, and recommendation by at least two anonymous reviewers. Interventions pieces, as referenced above, are not peer-reviewed.
