期刊简介:The Journal of War and Culture provides a forum for the analysis, discussion and dissemination of original research exploring the relationships between war and culture in the modern and contemporary era. Interdisciplinary and international in scope, the Journal of War and Culture Studies examines cultural histories and cultural production as significant forces that shape experiences, representations and memories of war. We work with a broad conception of ‘war’ to include revolution, civil war, terrorism, paramilitary activities, anti-war and peace activism, as well as conventional conflicts between two or more nation states. We welcome submissions within the following remit: The relationship between war and culture during conflict and its aftermath Forms and practices of culture and cultural transmission in times of war The impact of war on cultural production, cultural identity and international cultural relations Comparative, cross-cultural approaches to representations of the experiences of war and conflict Historical scope: wars and conflicts in the modern and contemporary periods (i.e., late eighteenth century to the present day) Geographical scope: war and conflict from all cultures, continents, nations and contested territories across the globe We particularly encourage proposals which address conflicts that are under-explored in contemporary scholarship, and proposals about regions which are under-represented in Anglophone academic literature. We are keen to support and amplify the work of scholars from underrepresented fields and backgrounds. We are a multi-disciplinary journal and welcome submissions from diverse conceptual and methodological positions. The editors invite contributions that explore relevant topics within the journal’s scope from the fields of cultural history, cultural studies, international studies, peace & conflict studies, literary studies, media studies, and visual studies. Articles in related aspects of the social sciences, as well as social and political histories, are also welcomed if the focus on cultural production is clear. Please note, it is unlikely that a research article focussed on one cultural text (such as a single novel or film) will engage sufficiently with the scope of the journal. Similarly, submissions which are not sufficiently explicit about the cultural dimension of the research are unlikely to proceed to the peer review process. The Journal of War and Culture Studies has always welcomed submissions from early career and postgraduate researchers and the editors are proud to have published many scholars' first articles. In celebration of excellent new scholarship emerging in the field of war and culture studies, and with the financial support of Taylor & Francis, the editors award an annual Early Career Researcher Prize to the author of the most original article published in the journal by a postgraduate or early career researcher (up to 7 years post-PhD award). A typical paper for this journal should be no more than 8000 words. We publish four issues per year, of which three are usually special or themed issues and one a varia issue (i.e., collection of individual articles). As part of a special issue, we also welcome contributions in alternative formats of between 2000 and 4000 words (e.g., interviews, curated conversations, and analysis of relevant cultural artefacts such as museums, memorials or movies). Please email the co-editors, if you have a proposal for a special issue. The Journal of War and Culture Studies was established in 2007 by the Group for War and Culture Studies.
