期刊简介：INTRODUCTION Overview The International Journal of Nautical Archaeology ( IJNA ) is a forum for the exchange of ideas and research relevant to all aspects of nautical and maritime archaeology. Published twice a year, IJNA is a full colour publication, both online and in print, that contains peer-reviewed original research articles , notes , and book reviews . IJNA addresses the theory and practice of archaeology and related academic disciplines, such as cultural geography, history, ethnography, anthropology, and oceanography and other related marine sciences, which investigate human associations with water and waterborne craft of all periods throughout the world, on seas and inland waters. Aiming to encourage a fuller understanding of the maritime past within its wider context, IJNA keeps readers abreast of the latest discoveries, techniques, new interpretations, and theoretical approaches. Aims and Scope The journal covers all aspects of the study of nautical and maritime archaeology, exploring the use and development of water transport, maritime trade, coastal and offshore resource use, and the infrastructures that supported these activities from prehistory to the recent past. The material covered includes both tangible remains from terrestrial and underwater sites related to seas and inland waterways and ranges from shipwreck studies to maritime landscapes and intangible heritage related to maritime lifeways. The journal aims to encourage a broad appreciation and understanding of the social impact of our maritime past in its wider cultural context. While archaeology is our central interest, coverage includes: • Archaeological evidence for ships and boats, navigation, and trade • Ethnographic approaches to nautical and maritime material cultures • Survey and excavation of sites in rivers, lakes, and the sea • Submerged cultural landscapes • Harbours and other maritime-focused coastal sites • Artefact studies and conservation methodologies • Legislation and cultural heritage management • Theoretical and methodological approaches We encourage submissions from early career researchers and from underrepresented communities. Please note that this journal only publishes manuscripts in English. There are no submission fees, publication fees, or page charges. All images are published in colour, on-line and in print. All material for consideration should be submitted through the Scholar One portal . IJNA operates a single anonymised (single-blind) review process. All contributions will be initially assessed by the Editor for suitability for the journal. Papers deemed suitable are then sent to a minimum of two independent expert reviewers to assess their scientific quality. The Editor is responsible for the final decision regarding acceptance or rejection of articles. The Editor's decision is final. ETHICAL STATEMENT IJNA welcomes submissions from all persons engaged in archaeology and related fields, as noted above, with a maritime/nautical relevance, anywhere in the world. As publication in a refereed journal gives long-term academic respectability to any material published, we expect transparency. The Editor asks that clear information regarding the following is provided, as relevant, when an article is submitted: · The financing of surveys, excavations, and collection or archival research; · Permissions obtained from the responsible authorities when working with original material/primary data in the field, in museums, archives, conservation labs, and similar; · The location, conservation, and long-term curation of all finds and of the paper and digital archive arriving from primary materials research; · Approval obtained from people who appear in figures that can be identified/recognized; · Permissions obtained to use any material for which the author/s do not hold copyright (third-party material; generally, images or unpublished data originating beyond the author/s’ own work); · For research students, evidence of the approval of their supervisor(s). The Editor expects authors to have worked within the principles laid down in the Annex to the 2001 UNESCO Convention on the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage. These include Rule 1. ‘The protection of underwater cultural heritage through in situ Furthermore, IJNA will not consider for publication research that: · Has been undertaken in occupied territories and their contiguous waters as recognised by the United Nations and/or the British Government. · Has been undertaken under the auspices of organisations/institutions established in occupied territories and their contiguous waters as defined by the United Nations and/or the British Government. · Include material for which an objectively verifiable provenance (a defined archaeological findspot and object owner history) cannot be established. Authors should ensure that their articles are free from bias, use inclusive language that acknowledges diversity, conveys respect, and is sensitive to differences. Where applicable, authors should indicate that they have consulted with descendent groups regarding the presentation of research results based on human remains or studies undertaken on traditional lands. AI-Generated Content IJNA will not accept text, images, graphics or translations generated directly by Artificial Intelligence, such as ChatGPT, Claude or Google Gemini, as the originality of such content cannot be guaranteed. If Artificial Intelligence is the subject of an article, then examples of AI-generated content must be clearly marked and attributed in the text, and the express permission of the Editor secured. Duplicate and Redundant Publication IJNA will not accept articles in which duplicate or redundant publication, or ‘self-plagiarism’, occurs (when a work, or substantial parts of a work, is published more than once by the author(s) of the work without appropriate cross-referencing or justification for the overlap, including publications in a different language). Exceptions may be made if the Editor feels that such duplication (clearly cited) will strengthen the academic discourse and clear approval from the original publication is obtained. Please see further guidelines here. Misconduct IJNA is committed to identify and prevent the publication of articles where research misconduct has occurred. If IJNA and/or Taylor & Francis Publishers are made aware of any allegation of research misconduct, these shall be dealt with appropriately. Authors may wish to consult the Editor regarding these issues or any other submission queries ( ijna@nauticalarchaeologysociety.org ). IJNA does not tolerate abusive behaviour or correspondence towards its Editorial staff, and we assert the right to take action against such abuse. This may include withdrawal of a manuscript from consideration or challenging clearly abusive peer review comments or abusive book reviews.
