Current Issues in Language Planning

期刊简介：Current Issues in Language Planning aims to contribute to the field of language planning and policy studies by publishing high-quality, empirically focussed research that deepens understanding of the field and how language planning and policy is practised and enacted around the world. The journal adopts a broad definition of language planning and policy that ranges from a focus on regulatory, ‘top-down’ governmental work, and ‘middle-out’ approaches, to more ‘bottom-up’ processes, which deal with actors at different levels and/or with the contestation of language planning efforts and policies. The journal welcomes studies of formal and informal decision-making about language problems, language use, language forms and language education wherever these occur in societies. The journal is also receptive to articles that examine language problems and decision-making at transnational and supranational levels as well as in virtual domains. Together with submissions on language problems, we welcome papers that engage with planning and policies in relation to the nature of language, language maintenance, revival, shift and spread, and its transformation under the influence of factors at various levels and sources. The journal therefore invites articles that focus on any aspect of language planning and policy at the macro, meso, or micro social level and aims to promote understanding not just of language planning and policy processes, but also of the impacts of policymaking on societies and social groups. The study of such processes is interdisciplinary in nature, and we welcome submissions from any academic field, with the proviso that the key focus of any submitted paper is on language planning and policy. Submissions must show how and why they contribute to the study and understanding of this field. For example, research data on language attitudes, language practices, identity, motivation, teaching and learning and other topics must be presented as they relate to language planning and policy. We seek articles that are not simply descriptions of current language planning and policy work in specific contexts, but which also have a strong theoretical foundation and highlight the significance of such work in understanding how policies influence and are influenced by social structures, ideologies and discourses, and consider what specific contexts reveal about more general processes. We also welcome proposals for guest-edited special issues that focus either on themes in language planning and policy studies or on language planning and policy in specific polities. The thematic studies should normally consider a specific topic in relation to multiple sites and seek to build a stronger theoretical understanding of the topic. Polity studies should aim to overview critically the range of policy issues confronted by a polity and link these to wider theoretical debates.
