期刊简介:In one forum, Journal of Loss and Trauma brings together scholarship on various losses that may or may not be associated with trauma to advance our knowledge and offer diverse cultural perspectives. The Journal of Loss and Trauma holds a unique position by emphasizing various types of loss as central themes that shape people’s lives. The journal considers loss as an experience of losing someone or something, whether personal, material, or symbolic, to which the person was perhaps emotionally attached. Although each loss is multifaceted and includes layers, it may include one or more of the following: The first aspect addresses physical, sensory, and cognitive loss, such as death and dying, physical challenges, amputation, disability, illnesses, blindness, deafness, memory impairment. The second aspect concerns temporal and developmental loss, such as loss of time, loss of continuity, autobiographical loss, loss of identity, aging, and parentification as a loss of childhood. The third aspect ties to emotional, relational, social, and cultural loss, such as dissolution, divorce, neglect, isolation, lack of intimacy, distrust/mistrust, betrayal, public shame, loss of faith, loss of dignity, loss of belonging, loss of social roles, loss of community, loss of tradition, loss of rituals, loss of language. The fourth aspect addresses stability and safety loss, such as kidnapping, migration, displacement, war, disaster, violence, accident, financial losses, theft, layoff, retirement, homelessness, loss of possessions, loss of privacy, loss of hometown, loss of landmarks, and gentrification. The fifth aspect focuses on psychological and existential loss, such as loss of confidence, loss of doubt, loss of control, loss of hope, loss of energy and motivation, loss of meaning, loss of ideals, loss of humanity, to name a few. It is important to note that many of these losses fall under multiple categories and overlap, which demonstrates the complex and interconnected nature of loss. Journal of Loss and Trauma also addresses different aspects of loss, including ambiguous loss, disenfranchised grief, cumulative loss, sequential loss, collective loss, and anticipatory loss. The journal recognizes that loss is often experienced as psychological trauma and often irreversible; thus, it may involve despair, emptiness, anger, sorrow, and regret. The journal also supports the view that loss can include transformative shifts in worldview, continuing bonds, resilience, and posttraumatic growth. Interdisciplinary in its approach, the journal publishes empirically oriented and rigorous Research Articles that present quantitative and qualitative studies as well as literature reviews, Method Articles that proposes innovative applications, Letter to the Editor to stimulate discussions in the field, and Book Reviews that critically engage with scholarly works within the field. Readership: Academics and practitioners in psychology, counseling, thanatology, gerontology, nursing, anthropology, family studies, psychiatry, sociology, oral history, and organizational management as it pertains to job loss. Peer Review Policy: All research, theoretical, and review articles in this journal have undergone rigorous peer review, based on initial editor screening and anonymous refereeing by at least 2 anonymous referees.
