The Editors-in-Chief are Nelson Phillips (University of California Santa Barbara, USA) and Llewellyn D.W. Thomas (University of Sydney Business School, Australia). Associate Editors are Oliver Alexy, Janet Bercovitz, Lars Frederiksen, Lucy Gilson, Michael Lounsbury and Paul Tracey. The Social Media Editor is Stefano Magistretti. Aims & Scope Innovation: Organization & Management ( IOM ) publishes outstanding research on innovation within and around organizations. The Journal addresses scholars in management, strategy, innovation, entrepreneurship, and organizational theory, and welcomes manuscripts grounded in diverse disciplinary, theoretical and methodological traditions. The Journal publishes both empirical and theoretical contributions that are highly relevant and methodologically robust. The Editors-in-Chief particularly encourage manuscripts that break new ground theoretically - even if they are methodologically risky - or use non-mainstream and innovative approaches. The implied meaning of innovation is broad, ranging from technological innovation to organizational innovation to business and social innovation, in the context of both business and not-for-profit organizations. IOM covers innovation processes, structures, outcomes, antecedents, discourses and behaviours in both large and small organizations, including entrepreneurial organization. The level of analysis ranges from individual innovative behaviour, innovation within teams and groups, and organization-level innovation, to innovation within and across organizational networks, ecosystems and fields. Themes invited include (but are not limited to): Innovation management Innovation strategies, including open innovation Technology strategy Markets for technology Innovation in industry and sectoral architectures Ecosystems (innovation, open innovation, knowledge, business and entrepreneurial) Field-wide innovation, adoption, diffusion Organizational behaviour and innovation Dynamics of individual innovation, including user innovation Innovation, teams and groups Institutional and social innovation Discursive aspects of innovation Entrepreneurial innovation Social and impact entrepreneurship Positive and negative consequences of innovation Critical approaches to innovation Social organization of innovation (open-source, academia) Innovation alliances and networks Science business and science entrepreneurship Business model innovation, managerial cognition Innovation: Organization & Management publishes the following types of articles: Standard articles : Full-length original articles of around 10,000 words including references. Standard articles can be theoretical or empirical. Reviews : Full-length original articles of around 10,000 that integrate and report on research advances in innovation, broadly defined. Reviews need to move beyond descriptions, and extend existing theory, motivate conceptual integration and set future research agendas. Essays : By invitation only. Scholarly commentaries on disputed theoretical issues, interesting or contested phenomena, or directions for future research. Essays may be written in the first person and should focus on carefully crafted arguments for a position. Essays should be in the range of 4,000 to 6,000 words. Each article, needs regardless of type, to (a) address a clear and important problem or puzzle, (b) speak to an identifiable conversation in the literature, (c) use appropriate analytical techniques (for empirical papers), and (d) advance the literature by making a theoretical contribution (rather than merely presenting new empirical evidence). Peer Review Statement Innovation: Organization & Management is an international, peer-reviewed journal publishing high-quality, original research. All submitted manuscripts are subject to initial appraisal by the Editors, and, if found suitable for further consideration, to peer review by independent, anonymous expert referees. All peer reviews are double-anonymized and submission is online via ScholarOne Manuscripts .
