Studies in Theatre and Performance

期刊简介：An international, peer-reviewed journal, Studies in Theatre and Performance ( STP ) publishes work that explores theatre and performance practice across histories, cultures, and fields of interdisciplinary enquiry. We have a deliberately open editorial brief and a policy of rotating editorial roles for limited terms to ensure that the journal functions as an inclusive and flexible space for scholars in the discipline of theatre and performance studies to publish their work both individually and collectively, and to train and develop as editors and research leaders. In recent years, we have focused, in particular, on supporting early-career researchers and those from the Global South to take their work to publication. Articles in STP reflect a broad spectrum of methodological enquiry, and encompass research informed by practice, direct observation of/engagement with practitioners, and critical engagement with play-texts and performances. STP is sponsored by DramaHE (UK) and reflects that organisation’s commitment to supporting teaching, learning, and research in drama, theatre, and performance in the broadest sense. STP aspires to contribute to the expansion of academic vocabularies, methodologies, and ways of writing beyond the established forms of standard Anglophone scholarship, and we welcome submissions from scholars writing from African, Asian, Oceanic, and Latin American contexts. Our typical submission format takes the form of full-length research articles (6,000-8,000 words); however, we also publish scripts, transcripts and, where we can support appropriate formats, Practice as Research (PaR) portfolios, of varying lengths. Our Reviews section provides space for reviews of publications, performances or events, or responses, interviews, or interventions into live discussions pertaining to theatre as practice and academic discipline. In addition to peer-reviewed research articles, the journal includes a Forum section dedicated to critical contributions, such as performance reviews, interviews, and manifestos. Forum is intended to accommodate forms of writing that sit adjacent to, rather than fully within, the conventions of the research article or book review. These shorter contributions prioritise exploratory, situated, and reflective modes of critical engagement, offering space for work that tests ideas, revisits formative moments, or responds to contemporary conditions without the requirement of comprehensive scholarly closure. Forum extends the journal’s commitment to critical debate by making room for alternative registers and tempos of scholarly discussion within theatre and performance studies, providing rapid responses to ongoing developments from scholars, critics, and industry professionals. Forum contributions are overseen by the Reviews Editor, and authors interested in this section are invited to contact James Rowson at james.rowson@cssd.ac.uk regarding potential submissions. The word length of these pieces is more flexible than research articles and can be negotiated with the editor. STP looks forward to working with new contributors and scholars and we also invite both academics and practitioners to submit proposals for ‘special issues’.
